I got my hands on an old GPS, a Magellan GPS 320 Europe... big and bulky, with lcd display. Set a few points and retreived them in the DataSend application. Nothing fancy at all, downloaded gpsbabel, a translation application which were supposed to "decode" and convert the data to something that could be transfered to other GPS units or applications.

Earlier today I played some with and to use the latitude/longitude in LOC records on a DNS server I manage. After converting the coordinates from precise known location, I put the converted values in a graphical mapping service, the location had drifted away some houndred to thousand meters... funky shite.

With a heap of decimals of precision it obviously doesn't matter, as they are rounded off or simply dropped.
